We recently completed a free house clearance in Bedlington, Northumberland, for a retired couple who had moved into assisted living. Their family needed the house emptied before it was put on the market but wanted to ensure that usable items were sold or donated rather than sent to waste.
Customer Requirements
“My parents have moved into a care home, and we need their house in Bedlington completely cleared. There’s a mix of old and modern furniture, lots of books, and various household items they’ve accumulated over the years. We’d like anything in good condition to go to charity if possible, and we need the house left clean and empty for the estate agent.”
The House Clearance in Bedlington
Our team arrived at 9 AM and started by walking through the property with the family to identify sentimental items they wanted to keep. We then began the clearance, working room by room to separate saleable goods from those suitable for donation.
Living Room & Dining Room
The living room contained a traditional three-seater sofa, an oak coffee table, and a vintage display cabinet filled with glassware and ceramic figurines. The cabinet and its contents were set aside for resale, while the sofa was in excellent condition and donated to a local charity shop.
The dining room had a solid wood table with four matching chairs, a Welsh dresser, and a collection of fine china. The table and dresser were ideal for resale, while the fine china was carefully packed for auction.
Bedrooms & Storage Areas
Each bedroom contained a selection of furniture, including a Victorian-style dressing table, a mahogany wardrobe, and several bedside drawers. The dressing table and wardrobe were set aside for resale, while the drawers were donated. We also cleared wardrobes filled with clothing, with most items given to charity shops.
We found a collection of vintage handbags, scarves, and costume jewelry, which we identified as valuable and added to our resale stock.
Kitchen & Utility Room
The kitchen contained modern appliances, including a fridge-freezer, a toaster, and a coffee machine. These were still in good working order and were donated to a local community center. There were also stacks of cookware, cutlery, and crockery, much of which went to charity.
Garage & Loft
The garage was filled with old tools, a set of garden furniture, and a collection of vinyl records. The records, along with a retro radio, were marked for sale. The garden furniture was donated, and any unusable tools were recycled.
The loft contained several old suitcases, boxes of books, and a collection of postcards dating back decades. The family chose to keep the postcards, while the books were donated.
By mid-afternoon, the house was fully cleared and left tidy, ready for sale.
