We were recently contacted by a client in Bellingham, Northumberland, who needed a full house clearance following the passing of their father. The property, a three-bedroom stone-built cottage near the River North Tyne, had been in the family for decades and contained a mix of antique furniture, collectibles, and everyday household items. The client wanted to ensure that anything of value was identified and purchased, while the remaining items were either donated or responsibly recycled.
Client’s Requirements
-
Complete house clearance, including garage and attic
-
Identification of valuable antiques and collectibles
-
Sorting out sentimental items for the family
-
Responsible disposal of remaining belongings
The House Clearance Process
Living Areas & Bedrooms
The living room contained a large oak dresser filled with fine china, including several pieces of Spode Blue Italian porcelain. In one of the drawers, we found an old collection of silver teaspoons, which we carefully set aside for the family. The bedrooms contained solid wood furniture, vintage clothing, and a beautifully preserved Art Deco dressing table. Hidden inside one of the bedside drawers, we discovered a small tin containing a few old gold sovereign coins, which the family was delighted to recover.
Kitchen & Dining Room
The kitchen housed an assortment of well-preserved copper pans, vintage kitchenware, and a hand-painted ceramic bread bin. The dining room featured an antique pine farmhouse table and a set of Windsor chairs, which were of particular interest to us.
Garage & Attic Discoveries
The garage contained various tools, an old Singer sewing machine, and a collection of vintage enamel signs. In the attic, we uncovered a well-worn leather suitcase containing a selection of wartime memorabilia, including letters, medals, and an old pocket watch, which the family decided to keep.
