We recently completed a free house clearance in Coldstream, Scottish Borders, for a client who needed their late uncle’s home emptied before putting it on the market. The house contained a mix of antique furniture, collectibles, and modern household items, and the client wanted to ensure that anything reusable would either be sold or donated rather than going to waste.
Customer Requirements
“My uncle’s house in Coldstream needs to be cleared before I put it up for sale. He had lived there for decades and accumulated a lot of furniture, books, and decorative items. I’ve taken the sentimental pieces I wanted to keep, but everything else needs to be removed. I’d prefer for items to be donated where possible rather than thrown away.”
The House Clearance in Coldstream
Our team arrived at the property early in the morning and carried out a walkthrough with the client. The house was well-maintained, but it was filled with furniture and personal belongings that needed to be sorted.
We started in the living room, where we carefully packed up antique books, ornaments, and framed artwork. A Georgian-style mahogany display cabinet was set aside for resale, along with a collection of hand-painted porcelain plates.
The bedrooms contained several vintage furniture pieces, including an oak wardrobe and a pair of 19th-century bedside tables, which we identified as valuable for resale. Clothing, bedding, and curtains were packed for donation.
In the kitchen, we sorted through cookware, glassware, and appliances. A nearly new microwave and an espresso machine were suitable for resale, while everyday crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils were boxed for charity.
The garage and attic held a variety of stored items, including old tools, a trunk of vintage postcards, and a small collection of silver-plated cutlery. The tools were donated to a local community workshop, and the postcards and silverware were set aside for resale.
By mid-afternoon, the house was fully cleared, and we ensured it was left tidy and ready for the client’s next steps.
