We recently carried out a free house clearance in Duns, Scottish Borders, for a client who needed their late uncle’s home emptied in preparation for selling the property. The house had been unoccupied for several months and contained a mix of antiques, vintage furniture, and modern household items.
Customer Requirements
“My uncle’s house in Duns has been sitting empty for a while, and I need it cleared before I can put it up for sale. He was a collector of various antiques, but there’s also a lot of general furniture, books, and household goods. I’d prefer anything usable to be donated rather than disposed of.”
The House Clearance in Duns
We arrived early in the morning to assess the property with the client. They had already removed personal keepsakes, so we were able to begin work immediately.
Starting in the living room, we carefully sorted through antique furniture and collectibles, setting aside valuable items for resale while boxing up books and decorative items for charity. A large number of porcelain figurines and vintage glassware were carefully packed for transport.
The kitchen contained modern appliances, much of which was in good condition. Smaller appliances such as a microwave, coffee machine, and slow cooker were donated, while high-end cookware was set aside for sale.
In the bedrooms, we sorted through wardrobes full of clothing, some of which was designer-brand and suitable for resale. Everyday clothing, bedding, and linens were donated to a local charity.
The attic and garage took extra time to clear due to the sheer amount of stored items. We uncovered vintage fishing equipment, old military medals, and a collection of woodworking tools. Usable tools were donated to a community workshop, while specialist antiques were packed for sale.
By early afternoon, the house was fully cleared, with all rooms swept and left tidy.
