We were contacted by a client in Forest Hall who needed a full clearance of their late father’s two-bedroom bungalow. The property had been his home for over 40 years and contained a mix of mid-century furniture, household items, and personal effects. The family requested a respectful clearance, with any valuable items appraised and purchased, and as much as possible donated to charity.
Client’s Requirements
-
Full clearance of the property, including the garage and shed
-
Careful identification of valuables for purchase
-
Donation of usable furniture and household goods
-
Responsible disposal of non-recyclable items
-
Completion in one day to allow for sale preparations
The Clearance Process
Living Room & Bedrooms
The living room housed a collection of vintage ornaments, including a Beswick horse figurine and a set of Wade Whimsies, which we purchased. A large mid-century teak wall unit dominated one side of the room, and while the family initially wanted to dispose of it, we were able to arrange a donation to a local charity that supports families in need.
In the bedrooms, we found a collection of vintage clothing, including a Harris Tweed jacket and a leather satchel, both of which we purchased. The remaining clothing, bedding, and soft furnishings were packed and donated.
Kitchen & Dining Area
The kitchen contained a set of 1960s Pyrex dishes and a vintage coffee grinder, both in excellent condition, which we purchased. Everyday kitchenware, including crockery, cutlery, and a working microwave, was donated to a local shelter.
The dining area featured a solid oak table with four chairs. After consulting the family, we arranged for them to be donated to a nearby community center.
Garage & Shed
The garage contained various vintage tools, a cast-iron vice, and an old oil can, which we purchased due to their collectible value. A Raleigh bicycle from the 1970s was found in the shed, and after a quick assessment, we bought it for restoration.
Many general household items, including garden tools, plant pots, and a working lawnmower, were donated to a community gardening project.
