We were recently contacted by a client in Lynemouth who needed a complete house clearance after their elderly father moved into assisted living. The home, a modest two-bedroom terraced house, had been lived in for over 50 years and was filled with personal belongings, vintage furniture, and various household items accumulated over the decades. The family wanted to ensure that anything of value was identified and that the clearance was handled with care and efficiency.
Client’s Request
“Our dad has moved into a care home, and we need to clear his house to put it up for sale. There are some older items, including tools in the shed and furniture that might be worth something. We would like anything of use to be donated where possible.”
The House Clearance Process
Main Living Areas
The living room featured a large oak display cabinet filled with old books, decorative plates, and family photos. We carefully sorted through the collection and discovered a set of vintage Sunderland Lustreware, which was later sold to a collector. The rest of the furniture, including a well-preserved 1960s G-Plan coffee table and a vintage sideboard, was donated to a local charity.
Bedrooms & Loft
The bedrooms contained a mixture of traditional and modern furniture, including a well-kept Edwardian dressing table, which we were able to sell on behalf of the family. The loft, which had not been accessed for years, contained boxes of old toys, war memorabilia, and a collection of 1970s vinyl records. After careful sorting, we identified several rare records that were sold to a local record shop, while the remaining items were donated.
Garage & Shed
The shed was packed with tools, gardening equipment, and old bicycles. Many of the tools were still in excellent condition and were donated to a local charity supporting community workshops. A 1950s Raleigh bike was also found, which was later sold to a vintage cycling enthusiast.
