We recently completed a free house clearance in Melrose, Scottish Borders, for a client who needed their late father’s home emptied before finalizing the sale of the property. The house had been occupied for over 50 years and contained a mix of antique furniture, collectibles, and modern household goods.
Customer Requirements
“My father’s house in Melrose needs to be completely cleared. He was a collector of antiques and also kept a lot of general household items. I’ve taken what I want to keep, but I need the rest removed. I’d like any usable items to go to charity if possible, and I want to ensure the house is left clean and empty.”
The House Clearance in Melrose
We arrived early in the morning and met with the client to confirm which items they had already set aside. Once that was done, we started working through the house room by room.
In the living room, we carefully sorted antique furniture, books, and decorative items. A collection of fine porcelain, including a tea set with hand-painted designs, was set aside for resale. The bookshelves contained a mix of modern and vintage books, many of which were suitable for charity.
The dining room featured a large oak table with matching chairs, which we identified as a valuable piece for resale. There were also various silver-plated serving dishes and cutlery, some of which were kept for sale while others were donated.
Moving into the bedrooms, we sorted through clothing, linens, and personal items. Designer-brand clothing and vintage textiles were placed in the resale category, while general clothing and household linens were packed for donation.
The kitchen contained a mix of older and modern appliances. A nearly new air fryer and coffee machine were put aside for resale, while everyday crockery, glassware, and utensils were boxed for charity.
Finally, we tackled the attic and garage, where we found vintage tools, an old trunk filled with postcards and letters, and a collection of military memorabilia. These were carefully packed and categorized based on value and condition.
By mid-afternoon, the house was fully cleared, and we ensured that all rooms were left tidy and swept.
