We were recently contacted by a client in New Hartley who needed a full house clearance after inheriting their late aunt’s home. The house, a charming mid-century bungalow, had been occupied for over 40 years and contained a mix of antique and modern furnishings. The client wanted a respectful clearance, with an emphasis on recycling and donating as much as possible.
Client’s Request
“Our aunt was a collector of vintage glassware and ceramics, and we’re unsure if any of it holds value. We also need the house fully cleared, including the attic and garden shed, as we plan to put the property on the market.”
The House Clearance Process
Main Living Areas
The living room had a collection of Victorian and mid-century furniture, including a mahogany display cabinet filled with porcelain and glassware. After assessing the collection, we identified several valuable pieces, including a set of early 20th-century Murano glass vases and a collection of Royal Doulton figurines, which were later sold to collectors. The remaining furniture, including a three-piece suite and bookshelves, was donated to a local charity.
Bedrooms & Attic
The bedrooms contained a mix of 1970s and 1980s furniture, some of which was still in excellent condition. A teak wardrobe and dressing table set were donated, while a vintage Singer sewing machine was sold to a local antique shop. The attic contained boxes of old newspapers, holiday souvenirs, and a collection of 1950s kitchenware, which was carefully sorted and partially donated.
Garage & Garden Shed
The garden shed revealed a collection of tools, an old Raleigh bicycle, and several cast iron garden ornaments. The bicycle and garden ornaments were sold to a local vintage shop, while the usable tools were donated to a community workshop.
