We were contacted by a client in Riding Mill who needed a full house clearance for a three-bedroom cottage that had belonged to their late aunt. The property had been left untouched for several months, and the family was keen to clear it efficiently so it could be put on the market. They also wanted any valuable antiques and collectibles assessed and sold appropriately, while the rest of the usable household items were donated to local charities.
Client’s Requirements
-
Full clearance of a three-bedroom cottage, including loft and garden shed
-
Identification and purchase of any antique or valuable items
-
Donation of suitable furniture and household goods to charity
-
Completion within one day due to the client’s travel schedule
The House Clearance Process
Main Living Areas
The lounge was filled with elegant mid-century furniture, including a beautiful teak sideboard, a vintage armchair, and a collection of framed botanical prints. The family decided to keep a few personal items, but we arranged for the prints and sideboard to be sold.
In the dining room, we discovered a stunning 1930s oak dining table with matching chairs, which were still in excellent condition. These were purchased from the family along with a selection of vintage cutlery and a decorative porcelain serving set.
Bedrooms & Loft
The bedrooms contained solid wood wardrobes and bedside tables, all in good condition and donated to a local charity. The loft, however, held a few hidden treasures. Among the dusty boxes, we found a collection of Edwardian postcards, an Art Deco mantel clock, and a rare Victorian sewing box. These items were appraised and purchased from the family.
Kitchen & Garden Shed
The kitchen contained an assortment of copper cookware and an old but valuable ceramic bread bin, which we purchased. The shed held an array of old tools, garden ornaments, and a vintage cast-iron bench that had been neglected over the years. With the client’s approval, the bench was restored and sold, while the tools and garden ornaments were donated.
