Free House Clearance In Rothbury & Charity Donations

We were recently contacted by a family in need of a house clearance in Rothbury, a picturesque market town in Northumberland. The property, a charming stone-built cottage, had belonged to an elderly couple who had lived there for over 40 years. Following the passing of the last surviving homeowner, the family needed the house cleared in preparation for sale but wanted to ensure that any valuable or sentimental items were identified before removal.

Client’s Request

“My parents’ cottage in Rothbury needs clearing. We’ve taken some items, but there’s still a lot left, and we’re unsure what’s valuable. We’d appreciate a professional approach to sorting through everything and making sure things don’t go to waste.”

The House Clearance Process

Living Room & Study

The living room featured traditional country-style furniture, including a solid oak dresser filled with fine china and porcelain figurines. Among the collection were pieces of Royal Doulton and Beswick, which we identified as having resale value. The study contained a roll-top desk, which had been well cared for, and a selection of old books, including a first edition of Wuthering Heights, which was of significant interest to collectors.

We also uncovered a collection of antique maps of Northumberland, some dating back over a century. These were set aside for appraisal, and the family decided to keep them after learning about their historical significance.

Bedrooms & Loft

The bedrooms contained vintage furniture, including an Art Deco dressing table with a matching mirror and a set of Victorian oak wardrobes. The loft had been largely untouched for years, but after careful sorting, we found a trunk containing World War II memorabilia, including service medals, letters, and ration books. The family was grateful for this discovery, as these items held great sentimental value.

Kitchen & Outbuildings

The kitchen housed a range of vintage cookware, including copper pans, a collection of Mason Cash mixing bowls, and a hand-cranked coffee grinder. Some of these were highly desirable among collectors, particularly the copperware, which was sold to an antique dealer.

The outbuildings contained a variety of garden tools, an old wheelbarrow, and a beautifully aged wrought-iron garden bench. The bench was still structurally sound and was restored for resale.
