We were recently contacted by a client in Shilbottle who needed a complete house clearance for their late father’s bungalow. The property had been in the family for decades and contained a mix of everyday household items, sentimental possessions, and a large collection of tools. The family needed everything sorted quickly so the house could be put on the market.
Client’s Request
“We need the bungalow cleared as soon as possible. There are a lot of tools in the garage and quite a bit of furniture inside. If anything is valuable, we’d like to know, but mostly, we just want it handled professionally and efficiently.”
The House Clearance Process
Main Living Areas
The living room and dining area were furnished with mid-century teak furniture, including a G Plan sideboard and a matching dining set. After assessing their condition, we advised the client that these were highly desirable among vintage furniture collectors. The family decided to sell them, and we arranged for them to be sold through a specialist dealer.
Bedrooms & Loft
The bedrooms contained an assortment of furniture, clothing, and personal items. The loft, which had not been accessed for years, revealed several boxes of old documents, photographs, and military memorabilia from World War II. Among the finds was a set of wartime medals, which the family decided to keep as a cherished heirloom.
Garage & Shed
The garage was packed with tools, old bicycles, and various DIY equipment. One standout discovery was a vintage cast iron bench, which was restored and later sold to a garden antiques specialist. We also identified a collection of vintage hand tools, which were passed on to a local tool restoration group.
