We were recently contacted by a family in Warkworth, Northumberland, to clear a two-bedroom cottage overlooking the River Coquet. The property had belonged to an elderly couple, and after their passing, their children needed the house emptied so it could be prepared for sale. They wanted to ensure any valuable antiques were identified and that sentimental belongings were set aside before the rest was either sold, recycled, or donated to charity.
Client’s Requirements
-
Full clearance of the house, including loft and garden shed
-
Identification of valuable antiques and collectibles
-
Separation of sentimental items for the family
-
Responsible disposal of remaining contents
The House Clearance Process
Living Room & Bedrooms
The living room contained a mix of vintage and modern furniture, including a well-maintained Edwardian writing desk and a Victorian mahogany chest of drawers. Among the personal effects, we discovered an old photo album containing black-and-white photographs of Warkworth Castle from the early 20th century, which we set aside for the family.
The bedrooms contained a selection of mid-century wardrobes, chests of drawers, and a collection of vintage linens. Tucked away in a bedside table was a small wooden jewelry box containing silver and gold rings, which the family had been searching for.
Kitchen & Dining Area
The kitchen featured an oak farmhouse table and a matching dresser filled with fine china, including a collection of Royal Worcester plates. The dining area had a beautiful cut glass decanter set, which was carefully packed for the family.
Garden Shed & Loft
The garden shed housed an assortment of tools, old fishing rods, and a vintage cast iron boot scraper. In the loft, we uncovered a selection of antique books, including a first edition copy of a local history book about Northumberland, which was also set aside for the family.
