We recently carried out a free house clearance in Penicuik for a client who needed their late father’s home emptied before putting it on the market. Below, we’ll go through their requirements and how we completed the clearance.
Customer Requirements
“My father’s house in Penicuik needs to be completely cleared. He lived there for over 40 years, so there’s a lot to go through. We’ve already taken sentimental items, but there’s still furniture, books, clothing, and a shed full of tools. I’d prefer as much as possible to be donated or recycled rather than just thrown away. The house is going up for sale soon, so we need the clearance done quickly and efficiently.”
Contents Overview
The house had a mix of old and modern items, including:
- A solid wood dining table and four chairs.
- A well-worn leather sofa and two matching armchairs.
- Several tall bookcases packed with history books and old encyclopedias.
- A grandfather clock in need of minor repairs.
- Kitchen cupboards filled with plates, mugs, and small appliances.
- A bedroom set with a large double wardrobe and a wooden chest of drawers.
- A loft containing boxes of documents, Christmas decorations, and old board games.
- A garden shed full of tools, a workbench, and some old bicycles.
The House Clearance in Penicuik
Our team arrived early and started with a walkthrough of the house with the client to confirm any last-minute items they wanted to keep. Once that was sorted, we got to work.
We began in the living areas, carefully moving the larger furniture. The dining table and chairs were still in great condition, so they were set aside for donation. The grandfather clock was carefully removed and taken to a specialist for potential restoration.
The bedrooms were next, with the wardrobe and chest of drawers dismantled for easier removal. Clothing in good condition was bagged up and sent to a local charity, while worn-out items were responsibly recycled.
The loft contained various personal documents, which we boxed up for the client’s review. Unwanted items, such as old decorations and outdated paperwork, were removed for disposal.
Finally, we tackled the shed, sorting through the tools and workbench. Usable tools were donated to a local community workshop, while anything broken or rusted was taken for recycling.
By mid-afternoon, the entire house was cleared, and we did a final check to ensure nothing had been missed.
Client Review
“I can’t thank the team enough for making this process so easy. They were professional, respectful, and incredibly efficient. It’s such a relief to have the house cleared and ready to be sold. I also really appreciate how much they donated rather than just dumping everything. Highly recommended!”
